Katy Perry’s Prismatic Tour

Katy Perry made Lincoln her playground with neon lights, 3D effects, eye-popping costumes and undeniable energy.
The singer’s “Prismatic” tour came to Lincoln’s Pinnacle Bank Arena Wednesday, brin

ging together a variety of people ranging from pre-teens to middle-aged adults. Everyone showed their love for Perry with bright blue wigs, glittery skirts and hot pink crop tops.

Perry is known for her quirky personality and out-of-the-box performances, and the show exemplified everything the singer represents.

The show opened with “Roar” and the crowd’s screams overpowered Perry, which added life and energy to the arena. She carried out the Egyptian theme from her music video during “Dark Horse” and filled the arena with giant ice cream and smiley face balloons during “This is How We Do.”
Perry generally faces criticism when it comes to not “maturing” her sound and stage presence; she still loves her candy props, palm tree skirts and rainbow wigs.
Sure, her life-sized cat towers and birthday cake throne isn’t exactly the typical stage setup for a musician reaching 30. Some of the themes and antics were too bubblegum pop, and maybe in the eyes of people unfamiliar with the artist’s work, borderline annoying. On the other hand, for those who have followed Perry from the beginning, this show hit everything on the mark.
Her fan base defines her, and if Perry’s “Katy Kats”
love and support her, nothing else matters. It is obviously the singer does what she wants and loves all the craziness, but she definitely puts on a show she knows her fans will enjoy.
Throughout the set, Perry held hands with attendees, took selfies, interacted with those who brought signs and handed guitar picks to adoring fans.
It was easy to tell how much she appreciated every single person in that room. She even had everyone pinkie-swear not to “breakup” with her.
Some may disagree with the Perry’s performance techniques, but this is what makes her Katy. The balloons, confetti, dancing cats, glitter and bodysuits created a bond between the singer and fans. She opened the floor for people to be themselves.
She also proved she wasn’t just another one-dimensional artist. During acoustic performances of “By The Grace of God” and “The One That Got Away,” Katy peeled back all the layers and gave one of the most emotional performances of the night.
Perry constantly thanked attendees for sticking with her through the rough patches in her personal life and really opened up to the audience.
Every aspect made this show well worth the money, and there were only a few empty seats. The 12,000-seat arena was packed.
The night ended with performances of “Firework” and “Birthday,” where the singer pulled an audience member on stage and serenated her on the colorfully decorated birthday throne.
As confetti flew in the air, Perry pulled out all the stops with laser beams, smoke machines and 3D imaging to conclude the show.
Lincoln really got a taste of Perry’s world, and it seemed as though everyone walked away with a smile and some glitter.
