UNO celebrates First Annual Festival of the Arts

Garret Garniss, the student coordinator of the Festival of the Arts stopped into MavRadio’s studio, to talk about the inspiration behind creating UNO’s first Festival of the Arts. The weeklong event is a chance for student work throughout the College of Fine Art and Media to be showcased, including students from Art, Writer’s Workshop and Theater.

The first four nights begin with art exhibitions in the UNO Art Gallery located in the Weber Fine Arts Building beginning at 6:30 PM, featuring student works juried by guest curator Tim Barry, a ceramic artist and building manager for Omaha’s Hot Shops Art Center. Creative writing readings follow promptly in the Gallery at 7 PM, and theatre performances will be held in room 006 of the Weber Fine Arts Building at 7:30 PM. Each night’s festivities will conclude by 9 PM.

On Tuesday, March 15, Ciara Hoff will read a creative writing piece and MixTape 3, a humorous theatrical movement piece, will perform.

Wednesday, March 16, Harleigh Orlando will read a creative writing piece and The Moon Please, a work about a New York couple that has a baby on the morning of 9/11, and Hotline, which centers around a new suicide prevention hotline worker, will perform.

Thursday, March 17, Drew Hudson will read a creative writing piece and MixTape 3 will have its second performance.

Friday, March 18, Aaron Waggener will present his creative writing piece and The Moon Please and Hotline will have their second performances.

March 19 will focus on theatrical productions. One performance will be at 2 PM and the second will be at 7:30 PM. The productions will take place in the Weber Fine Arts Building room 006.

All showings and performances are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted to help with future festivals.
