OMAHA, Neb. (Oct. 28, 2025) – The ghosts of Nebraska’s past and the storytellers of its present come together tonight as MavRadio.FM presents its annual Haunted Heartland broadcast. Seventeen University of Nebraska at Omaha students from the School of Communication will report live from across the metro and tell original stories rooted in mystery, folklore, and Midwestern spirit.
The two-hour special begins Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. on MavRadio.FM, with a rebroadcast available later on the Haunted Heartland podcast.

Students will share features from locations including Joslyn Castle, Hummel Park, the Henry Doorly Zoo, and other legendary sites across Omaha. Additional segments explore the intersection of faith and fear, sustainable Halloween fashion, fall food favorites, and the artistry of horror filmmaking.


The broadcast is hosted by Myah French, Juliette Eckler, and Wyatt Lehr, with social media coverage by Bayleigh Koch and Denise Valdez-Alvarez. Reporters include Joel Anderjaska, Quise Varoz, Karlie Ryman, Samira Zarazua, Isaac McBee, Bella McAtee, Rhett Uleman, Dayanara Marroquin, Zaire Butler, Jacob Lesley, Katie Klemmensen, Ailyn Adame, Ryan Kinnaird, Shane Schumacher, Chase Zagurski, Olivia McArthur, and Lavender Kling.


“Haunted Heartland gives students a chance to combine creativity, storytelling, and live broadcast production,” said Executive Producer Jodeane Brownlee. “It’s a showcase of their talent and teamwork, and a Halloween tradition for listeners across the region.”
