Dende’s Digs: 2019 is Bringing the Hits

Reviewed and written by Dende (Aaron T.)

2019 is in full effect. It’s about that time where everyone either abandons their New Year’s resolutions or doubles down on their dedication. In the last few weeks, artists around the globe have indeed doubled down in their efforts to put out hit after hit and we as the fans are loving it.

Are we seeing the “Boys in Black” bring the band back together in The Black Keys?! Sounding like an absolute banger pulled from the jaws of the 80’s, they sure have brought the fire in their new single “Lo/Hi” that debuted last week. Just in time too, as the fans were starting to lose hope of ever hearing anything like that chart-topper they had in 2010 titled “Tighten Up” again. Devotees are clamoring to YouTube as the song has over a million listens already in the first 72 hours. It looks like after eight studio albums and six Grammy awards to show for it, the Key Train has been reinvigorated.

Speaking of YouTube hitmakers, 21-year-old Georgia native, Khalid, released a music video for his single “Talk” that was released in February. Khalid also brought us singles like “Better” and the more widely known “Location”. This song already has 500,000 hits and for a good reason. With amazing choreography and a diverse color palette for the video, you could watch it over and over and discover something new every time.

Last on the list for this month, as coined by the man himself, is J. Cole’s “The Real is Back”. With his new single titled “Middle Child”, J. Cole has gained a whole new fanbase. The ever-profound lyrics always have a deeper meaning in every one of his songs, and in this one, the visuals of his new video tell the tale. Starting with a symphony of trumpets and snares to accompany the trailblazing lyrics, “Middle Child” is sure to set chart-topping records this year alongside the rest of the songs on this list.
