Trailer Rundown with Jeff Turner – Solo: A Star Wars Story

The Last Jedi was more polarizing than previously anticipated. Despite this, Disney is undeterred with plans for two brand new, original trilogies after this sequel trilogy has concluded. Their spin-offs are in full force as well, with Solo: A Star Wars Story due out in May.

How does it look? There are some nice things to say. The space battles look fun, and one of the stronger elements of Rogue One was the portrayal of a Star Wars universe without light sabers being a major influence (at least until the Vader cameo). There’s a big problem though – Han Solo himself. Alden Ehrenreich is probably a fine actor in his own right, and he went into this role with a lot of good faith, but this faith has been spent, with rumors swirling around that the studio had to hire an acting coach because of his performance. Emilia Clarke’s performance also had proven to be continually underwhelming, apparently. The replacing of directors does not inspire confidence, either.

Solo – will probably suck, but I’ll likely still see it, yearning for the magic of the days of A New Hope and Empire.
